During the last week of July, Evita Kalogiropoulou (PI) attended to an intensive week-long course in Archaeological Micromorphology at the Malcolm H. Wiener Laboratory for Archaeological Science at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. The course was led by Dr. Panagiotis Karkanas, Director of the Wiener Laboratory, and Dr. Paul Goldberg, Visiting Professorial Fellow at the University of Wollongong. The course primarily focused on deciphering site formation processes and micro-stratigraphy. The participants received instructions in optical minerology, description of micromorphology thin sections, and analysis of soil fabrics and sedimentary microstructures. This course extended Evita’s initial training at geoarchaeology, that she received as a Visiting Fellow at the McBurney Laboratory for Geoarchaeology in Cambridge University, U.K.
